I was able to suck it out with the cheapo fluid pump, by sticking the sucker end in there.
and.... what drain plug? Have any pics?
Last year when I put my new Rear in I had the shop drill & tap the bottom for a 1/4" npt. drain plug.You can install one without removing the unit. E-Mail me for details.

I did the same with my 44 before installing it and also did the 36 that I removed before sending it to it's new owner. It's all about knowing where to drill. I've got the measurements for the 44 too. I forgot to record them for the 36 though.
