C5 brake conversion complete
What an amazing difference. The new parts make the car feel at least 10 years younger. I was having problems with driveline slop and a resistance/hesitation when I would accelerate hard that felt like a slipping clutch -- that's all gone now.
The brakes turned out fabulous. I bead blasted the front and rear calipers and brackets and painted them red/black. I took some pics that I'll post up later. I'm using stock 89 wheels, and I had to use 1/8" spacers so the calipers would clear. I've only driven the car a few miles and haven't bedded in the brakes yet, but my pedal effort is much reduced even just putting around town. I used Hawk HPS pads and changed the bias spring, and the braking seems to be quite aggressive even under a light apply. I'm very curious to see how this compares to my original J55 brakes.
BTW -- if you haven't ever cleaned out the area in front of the radiator, I highly suggest you consider doing it. I had a pile of leaves at least 6" deep. Contained in that pile were 3 plastic Wal-Mart bags and a dead mouse! I have no idea how the mouse got in there, but fortunately he didn't do any damage to the car.
