Tomorrow I will be attending my first car show. I am not crazy about it but the place where my wife works is sponsering it. I know this is a stupid question but at a car show when you have the hood up showing all the time consuming detail you did to the engine compartment, how do you keep the the battery from draining? Do you pull the fuse to keep the hood lights from staying on or what? The show lasts for 3 hours I know my battery will go dead but I want to show off all the work.
I'd definately pull it. I take the fuse out at cruise-ins when I have the hood up for any extended period. If it's dark out at the show, it really won't make enough light to make much of a difference anyway, at least mine don't.

I put a hood switch in. You can wire your own cutoff switch. Or if you are electronically challenged, you can purchase a kit from MAD, CORVETTE CENTRAL, etc.
I do it the cheap way, just unplug the lights. Follow the wire down form each light and there are plugs that you just release and then have no battery drain. Just pry the retaining clip up a little and gently pull on both pieces and the plug will separate.
When you drive in the rain and / or wash it you should plug them back in to prevent corrosion of the contacts.
Since I drag race my '88 I can't be bothered with the fuse every time I open the hood so I installed the harness assembly from MAM.
It just plugs into the power source and into each light harness on either side. There is a toggle switch that is hidden for easy on/off of the lights. Of course it's also handy when working under the hood on some R&R project or just some engine compartment detailing.
I pulled my fuse 2 years ago...I drag race a lot too...in front of the drivers side front wheel you will see the connector...pop it apart and remove the fuse...plug it back together if you want to leave the fuse out or leave it apart and put the fuse back in after the show ...

I made up dummy plugs for both sides of the connectors to keep them nice and clean in case I should ever need the lights.
