If a leak starts fix it!. This means the synthetic oil is cleaning out deposits in the engine. A clean engine means longer life. My 95 engine has 120 k and looks and sounds like new using synthetic.

It finds leaks by cleaning the gasketed surfaces. They don't go away, at least not quickly. Mine never leaked a drop until I switched to synthetics. I don't think synthetic serves any realistic advantage over a quality dino oil changed regularly.
When do you switch over to a synthetic in a new motor? I have right at 1100 miles on my new motor! Presently use Valvoline 10-30.
I switched over at 500 miles. My motor doesn't burn any oil. I change it about every 4-5k miles or one year depending on usage. I also use a K&N filter. I have about 50k miles on my motor since having it rebuilt into a stroker.
Hey guys, my car has 82,000mi on it, i am considering synthetic but im afriad of leaking oil, its not leaking now but what do you guys think i should go with? Thanks
Synthetics do not directly cause leaks. Their molecules are much smaller and consistent than "dino" oil and are better at finding places to leak from. In addition, synthetics have a high level of detergents which may actually clean away deposits that were hiding those little secret leak spots. If leaks are your worry, try the new Valvoline Full Synthetic MaxLife. I sell it, I trust it, I believe in it and I run it in my Vette and truck. My 99 Z71 has over 160,000 EXTREMELY hard miles on it and I don't leak or burn a drop of oil. If a huge leak develops, either fix it or try regular MaxLife which has a lot of semi-sythetic qualities.
