Check Engine On 1986 How Do I Get Code ??
Place a jumper wire between terminals "A" and "B" on the aldl connector. (located above drivers right knee)
Turn on ign.
The service light will flash 12 (1 flash pause 2 flash) three times then it will flash the code number. Lets say 34= three quick flashes, pause, then 4 quick flashes. The code will be followed by the 12 three more times.
Let me know the code and i'll post the GM diagnostics for it
After it flashes the "12" three times, it will flash the next code, in the example, "34" three times also. It will then go onto to flash the second code, if any, three times. There is no limit as to how many code can be displayed, each three times, between the '12's". Once the "12's" start again, you know you have seen all the codes.
Keep in mind, that just because a code came from a certain device, doesn't mean the the device is bad. Don't shoot the messenger. You need a factory service manual to tell you how to decipher the codes and to properly trouble shoot the problem. Manuals are available direct from the printer, at www.helminc.com, the for sale section, and on eBay. Without proper trouble shooting, you are likely to end up just throwing money at the problem.

The amendment is that each code also flashes three times, and there are no "12's" between codes. Like I said THIS much.

I hope you didn't mind my taking advantage of your "Get Smart" routine. All you missed was the trouble code repeating 3 times. Otherwise, perfect. Mainly I wanted to play with the "missed it by THIS much" comment.
RACE ON!!!
