Around town, the engine is overheating, but is fine at speed... I let the engine idle until it got hot, and I noticed that the fan isn't kicking on when it should (or at all)... I tested the fan itself, and it works fine... someone suggested I check the relay, can anyone tell me exactly where this is please? Any other thoughts or ideas would be welcome. Thanks
You say it is over heating. Is it really? The fan doesn't kick on until the 235° range. The fan relay is mounted to the rear of the left front wheel well, just below the master cylinder.
When you say, "Overheating", are you seeing steam coming out from your hood, or is the temperature high? L98's are built to run a bit high (220's-230's).
Your temperature sending unit could be bad and could be giving false readings. If it's falsely reading high, that would explain why the fans are kicking in.
If you're overheating, it could be due to many reasons. You need to first tell us what your car is doing exactly.

I have an L83 (crossfire injection), but it usually runs the about the same temp range as an L89...
It's fine on the highway.... its my understanding that the fan doesn't even run at speeds above 45 anway, true?
Around town it overheats, to the point where I blew my lower radiator hose... I replaced that, refilled the system, and let the engine idle. The temp kept climing, past the fan kick-on point, and coolant started boiling over into the overflow tank.... the fan never came on...
I tested the fan motor by hooking it right to the battery, and it works... so I think the reason its getting hot around town is that fact that the fan never comes on. I have a brand new water pump in the car.....
The radiator hose may have just been old, the pressure probably made it burst.
I'm not sure how to fix the fan, but incase you haven't done this yet-
Usually the steps to lowering temperature (getting it back to normal) are:
Remove and clean the radiator (and straighten fins),
-I replaced the tStat with a new stock one as well-
flush, refill and burp the system...
I believe your temperature switch is stuck into the right cylinder head, and the relay should be located directly underneath the Master Cylinder on the fender's inner wall.
