vette&f-bod lover, I believe Vic's '89 is turning out around 330chp which would be close to 280 at the wheels.
BTW, he runs skinnies up front, slicks out back and pulls 1.7x short times. I'm not sure but think that MrMojo is running skinnies on his A4 Vette too.
I dyno'ed at 271 RWHP without the TPIS air intake.
Last Saturday, I was running 12.75 ET's at 2700' DA.
I think an LT1 with similiar mods will run faster than an L98.
Vette and F-bod lover,
I dont know what problem your friend's Z06 had, but I seriously doubt that your SLP modified F-body was faster than a typical Z06 on the street.
that depends,how long a street A typical Z06 will cut a 1.9 60ft,my GTA with 3.54's,converter,chip,intake/exhaust,subframes,ET streets,was in the 1.7's.I never raced one,but I would have nipped one at the light.It had tremendous down low throttle response,and felt like a bigblock.The Z06 didnt have that feel to me,its power felt more seamless,and deceptive.and out on the highway,I was a passenger,when my friend WAS PULLING on some guy in a sportbike,so I dont think there was any problem with it.I would(dont we all)like to have that "light the tires" torque of a modded L98 combined with the "peeling the skin off my face"hp of the Z06.All cars run like that in heaven right? Maybe thats what the new LS7 Z06 is on earth better start saving
With ET streets your mildly modded L98 did 1.7+ 60'. Stock Z06s with factory F1 Goodyear tires do 2.0-2.1. With DRs they typically do 1.7-1.8 which is pretty much the same as your car. I admit that off idle to 2000 rpm, the L98 probably does produce significantly more torque than the LS6. That why when you nail the throttle from a stop, the car instantly lights up the tires and pushes you back. The Z is not like that off idle. The Z is like this: I move off normally from a stop and just after the clutch is fully engaged (about 10 mph) I nail the throttle in first gear. The car moves quickly about 25-30 feet and then starts to spin and hop the rear tires right up to the red line in first gear.
Also note that the Z's engine and OEM tires are very sensitive to ambient temp. On a 90+ degree day my Z would not go quicker than a 13.01 at 112 at Raceway Park Englishtown (engine felt flat , tires stuck reasonably well). Later that year in October I was at the track in the evening with the temperature hanging around 45. The car ran a 12.68 at 118.16 walking the car all the way through 1st gear and then spinning the tires entirely through 2nd gear (70 mph) (engine felt unreal and tires felt greasy the whole way down the track). For me on the F1s, the 12.3's come only when the temps are around 65-80. Tell your buddy to give you ride in his Z06 on a cool day in the fall.
In any case, the LS7 will probably be like you say, part L98 and part LS6(on steroids).
Hi guys,
This is a great topic, I just want to say, I was viewing everyone comments and what you guys were saying is true, I did a swap from tpi intake to LT1 intake, and pickup more mph than et, and the vette love to rev in the upper rpm's after 3000 rpm, the engine comes alive
Randy
An engine is an air pump. The Only basic difference is the intake. one has longer runners, the other short. As the years go by the efficiency of these air pumps is getting much better, thats why i feel its really not fair to compare any engine from a different generation stock-stock. If all the mods were done equally... look for the l98 to have more torque low end and the LT1/4s to have more top end.
When it comes to heavily modding these engines the sky's the limit. My solid roller 389 LT4 in my 93 takes advantage of the short runner intake design and revs cleanly to 8k rpm ( peak power is at 7200 ). i dont mean to brag put but i put a on the face of a c5 owner with a ARE 421 ci package.
Before you say i am wrong learn, Look it up it go back to the late 1800. Torque = H.P. I have a 90 L98 with out talking mod. I have own 66 chevelle 327, 68-396 71-454 ,69 corvette 427, and more, I no torque=H.P. Yes i am over 50, And please i don't want anyone to come down on me for what i said. I am sure no one could care less.
If I could, I would own an LT1 vette, along with my current L98 Vette.
L98 = Stoplight KING, has so much bottom end grunt, it seems scary.
LT1 = Freeway Racer SUPREME! With a 6speed with 4.10 gears, decent CAI and Exhaust, it'll rail up top pretty hard, almost near an LS1
L98 = 0-60 teh win
LT1 = 60-100 teh win
LS1 = 100-150 teh win
L98 = 0-60 teh win
LT1 = 60-100 teh win
LS1 = 100-150 teh win
no,you mean L98=0-60ft.a stock L98 auto coupe with 3.07's will do
0-60 in 5.6.LT1's can do 5.3.LS1's(3.15)are 4.9.6spd's are a few tenths faster in each.Line all 3 up and the L98 has both up until about 40,then its LT1,then past 50 its all LS1 up until Topspeed(170+)
