pke module
Also does anyone know the part# for the pke module in the dash or how to find it online?
Connector looks like this.
|01|02|03|04|05|06|07|08|
|09|10|11|12|13|14|15|16|
Place key in the ignition (off)
Short either Pin 4 or 5 (Both are ground) to pin 8.
The Passive Keyless entry lamp will flash a two digit code.
Here are the codes that can flash.
Code 12 Receiver bad memory (PKE module is bad).
Code 13 No transmitters in range.
Code 14 Non-valid transmitter received (Not programmed.
Code 15 Valid transmitter in range. (Programmed).
Code 16 Passenger door button depressed.
Code 17 Hatch button depressed.
So with no transmitters in range you should see a code 13.
Code 13 would look like this. Flash pause Flash Flash Flash.
If you bring a non programmed key fob in range you should see Code 14 Flash pause Flash Flash Flash Flash.
If you can't get in diag. mode and you're sure the fuses are good and the key is recognized when in the ignition cylinder the PKE module must be bad.

I bought my '96 used (one owner). The original owner had the PKE module replaced and still had trouble. I experienced the same troubles as the original owner (with much troubleshooting effort).
I gave up on it and am still experiencing the oddball "door lock fluttering" (with a very large time interval on failure.... infuriating for the purpose of troubleshooting).
I think PKE and the LTWPS (low tire pressure warning system) really suck for reliability.
I've ditched them both after laborious troubleshooting and expense. It's just not worth the effort.
On the "plus side".... My Opti-spark kicks ***.... I've not been able to destroy it. That's GM for 'ya. 50/50... they can always get it half-right.
Hmm... I see you haven't had any problems with your HVAC programmer yet. That's the much more frustrating than the PKE...
(on a side note, I actually got mine working, so PM me if anyone needs help)Vinnie
