Help with a code 36
I've got a friend with an 89 coupe that keeps setting a code 36. I've gone through all my books and can't find a code 36 for an 89 model.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

After the engine is shut off, the Mass Airflow Burn off relay should close for a couple of seconds to burn off any impurities on the MAF sensing wire.
If you open the hood and look at the driverside firewall behind the battery, you'll see two relays.
The one closest to the drivers door is the MAF Power relay. The one next to it is the Burn Off relay.
On a 89 the relays are the same. He might as well replace both relays at the same time.

Just went through the same thing on my 86 and I just replaced both of the relays bought from GM at about 30 for the pair. Also make sure he checks the wires going into the connectors as I had a couple that were bare for almost 3/4 an inch from the connector. Fixed that and the new relays and problem was solved. Hope that helps.

Be sure to replace both MAF relays at the same time.
also, find some electrical connector cleaner or just some 93% Isopropyl alcohol and douse the electrical onnections (male and femal) at the MAF

You can get the ACDelco power and burn off relays from Mid America for $9.99 each or 2 for $17.99. It's their part no 603-982.
