car pings help
i have a 383 in a 91 auto. when i floor it i get a ping from the motor. i have my timing at 5 degrees advanced. i just put in some 104 octane boost in with a tank of gas and will run that out and see if that helps. the builder said my cr should be 10.4 to 1. i am using shell gas 93 octane. i will take the car in for some dyno time and work on advaning the timing a little and see if that helps. anyone have some other ideas? thanks jeff

Could be the timing. I just completed an engine swap to a 400hp 350 TPI in my '84, and it pinged real bad around the 2400 rpm mark. I had some of the vaccum lines routed, and four others plugged, and once I got all the vaccum lines routed, it changed my timing somewhat, and the engine started it's pinging. Set the timing where it should be, and now it's fine.
you said you had the timing set at 5 degrees advanced. Did it ping from the moment you timed it? If not you may want to check and see if the timing and changed.
