Recommendations for a code scanner?
Was wondering if someone could recommend a reasonably priced trouble code scanner , I'd like to have one that would also allow re-setting and clearing codes.

Cool then you are OBDI.
WinALDL would work for you. It won't do OBDII.
Yes, it's a computer program. Free to download. Do a google search on WinALDL and you should be able to turn it up.
You'll need to make an interface cable to go from a serial port on your laptop (or desktop - but you lose portability that way) computer to the ALDL connector in your car.

A scan tool will allow you to download trouble codes and monitor engine operating parameters.
To clear trouble codes simply open the connector in the Orn wire near the battery Pos. terminal for a minute of so.
