I also have the S/T frame. I tip my rear view mirror up so that most of the upper part of the mirror is looking at the headliner and I can see a slit of the road behind at the bottom of the mirror. Its not much, but I can see most of the road and the cars behind me to the point that its really of some use aumenting the view from the side mirrors. I can see whole cars and trucks through the small slit kind of like if you took the normal view out of the rv mirror and masked off the top and bottom. I hope somebody can visualize what I'm talking about.
I have the autopower, and the rear view s^cks. but I'm tall, so it directly blocks my rear view. if I were 5" shorter, it probably would not affect me as much.
I can see pretty well out the back. I'm 6 ft, and I can see the grill, most of the hood...I'll sit in it tomorrow and take a snap in the rearview and post it.
Gotta agree with Luvmy92...what's behind me doesn't matter at the track
Think twice about the vendor roll bars. I had an Autopower in my 90. Rear vision is marginal for the street where you have at least have a few seconds to see whats behind you. On the track, where you only have a second to glance at the rear view mirror your not going to see the faster sport racer, formula car or whatever closing on you. I had to install a full width mirror with extended mounts to see anything behind me and the vision was still poor.
I had a custom rollbar made and it fits very tight to the roof. I also used the "half section" rollbar padding to help. It is better than an autopower bar for visibility. I use my car on the street and the track.
If you do a custom rollbar you can also put everything exactly where you want it and minimize the compromises made with a production bar, but it costs a lot more. You can do little things like tie the bar to the shoulder harness mts and put in wire loops to locate your harness on the crossbar, etc.
I agree with Larry and Joe, the vision out the back is marginal at best, but good enough to see another car if it appears. But let's face it... we didn't buy it for appearances. My Autopower is 2.5" thick and is not padded.
This winter I plan on getting a full cage, and still plan on driving this car on the street. I'll keep driving it until nobody else wants to go with me anymore. Then I'll convert it to a track only car.
yea, If you use a custom kit you can place the bars where you like (that is as long they are in accordace with your sanctioned racing org, I use Ihra/Nhra rule book for my cars) My main hoop physically touches the interior trim in some spots, I tried my best to fit it as close as possible to the body. Im only 5'10" and I have no visibility problems. But my rollcage tubing is only 1.75" in dia.
Like the saying goes, there's no free lunch. Your gonna have t compromise somewhere for the safety/handling improvment.
I still like the digital rearview. I won't tell you what dvd I watch in traffic Oh Jenna!lol
