Default Normal Temperatures

Hello,

I was reading in my books, and I saw some conflicting temperature data. I read that some temperatures (highway and interstate) should not exceed 230 f, and some say it should not exceed 225. What are the normal safe temperatures for a c4 vette. It says the light will come on if there is any danger, but my car was running 227 and no light came on.

Thanks for the help

My 92 ran between 197 and 218 on days when the ambient air temps were in the 70-80 degree range and that was with the stock 195 degree thermostat. The secondary fan would come on at 228 and the temps would drop quickly. Turning the A/C on also forces the secondary fan to run.

My 87 has a 180 degree 'stat and it typically runs around 180 to 192 or so.

One of the biggest issues with effective cooling in a C4 is a dirty radiator. The radiator and A/C condensor can easily get clogged with dirt and debris and that cuts the flow of cooling air. You can use a garden hose to aim a stream of water from the back side of the radiator to clean stuff out. A vacuum can also be used to clean between the radiator and condensor.

If I ever need it, what temp should I be concerned at?

Well if your car reaches 260 in normal driving, you need to shut it off. Moreso for aluminum heads. Thats dangerous to head gaskets especially.

Our cars are designed to run rather hot for emissions purposes.
