i ran long tube headers to true duals into Hooker Aerochambers. was very loud. way too loud. muffler shop added a H but not a true H. sort of a U shaped H in that the connection to the T's was a U for more volume. a half circle. it took the resonance away and quieted the exhaust about 30% which was a lot. day i picked up car i could not believe. sounded like a vacuum cleaner. well not quite. i too considered a pair of resonators as i was getting headaches if in car over 40 minutes.

I love the sound as well, especially at WIT there isn't a better sounding system. But my girfriend don't like going for long distances in my car and she complains that it draws too much attention, but that isn't because of the exhaust note, its the blower whine she really don't like

That's awesome! Yeah, it can be annoying at times, and I agree, when you pull up to a light, everybody looks at you..... and nobody messes with me.

The sound alone just makes 'em think I might have something waiting for them, so they don't bother... which is fine by me.

BTW, your car must be wicked with the blower. Is it stroked as well? What kind of numbers is it putting out?

Are you sure that the muffler will fit. The muffler arrived but measures 5.75"X12"X22" instead of 5"X11"X22"???????
Stock resonator measures 4.5"X8.25"X20"!!

Even if the muffler would have the advertised measurements it sure would be a very tight fit.
Can you explain how you made the muffler fit, otherwise I will return the muffler??

I would post pictures to see a comparison between other resonators, but don't know how, can anyone help me out.

Glad to hear the X toned it down. I have LT headers,Hi-flow cats, 3" duel tubes to 3" in/out flowmaster 40's with LT tips. Sets off car alarms and can hear it comming blocks away. Gonna stick an X in now for sure.

I checked my part number and it is 12469. Here are my notes

Stock center muffler
20 long
8.25" wide
4.5" tall
3.5" center to center pipes

Magnaflow center muffler
18" long
8.25" wide
5.25" tall
4.0" center to center pipes

It hangs down a bit because it is taller/thicker due to it being 3" pipes.

Sorry but it looks like you got the one listed in the above thread and I thought that was the one I had. That one is a 5x11 muffler and the one I have is a 5x8 version.

ericcer,

I bought mine because you said you had the same muffler, that it has a tru-X pipe, and of cource that it fits. Well, none seems to be true.

Your muffler doesn't have a tru-X pipe!!

Maybe you miss-typed. I spoke with Magnaflow before I bought it and they confirmed it has an x-pipe in it. When I got it I found they told the truth.

Here is the link for the one I got
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=476

Sorry about the screw up on my part.

eric, so I'll get the #12469 and hope it has an X-pipe in it. Don't understand why they haven't changed the description of the muffler since it does have an X-pipe. Did you get it in SS or aluminized?? They state that you can get the muffler both ways.
Thanks for the info Eric.

I got the non SS version. I thought is was odd that they did not advertise it properly too. When I called them I was just hoping that it had an x-pipe in it and it did. I would give them a call to complain about them not listing it as an x-pipe muffler. Maybe we can get them to change their description if enough people call about it.

Eric, do you remember if this was a full 3in dia. going through the muffler or did it downsize? Also, I noticed on Magnaflow's web page, they say it is available in stainless, but when I try to find it, I cant find the smaller size in stainless (12469). I sent an e-mail to the performance peddler (ebay) asking these questions. By the way, it is $94.05 shipped on there.

Well here is what I have found out so far on their web page. The 12469 & 12468 are identical except the 12468 is set up for 2&1/2 pipes.
When you look at the stainless steel versions they have a 14468 which is the same size as the 12468 but it shows the tru x design. They dont show a 3in version in stainless. I am going to call them tuesday and see what they say. I would prefer the stainless version but will use the steel version if not available. I feel sure they just left the tru x part out of the discription. But I will let everybody know.

Well I wanted to report back what I found after calling magnaflow. First, I called 800-824-8664 and spoke to a guy named Jim.
He told me the following,
1. 12469 does have the tru x design,
2. he said it is a stainless version, the aluminized are no longer made. But it is not a polished stainless.
3. He said it is 3in into where the x is and that is about 4in.

For me, that will give me a exhaust system that is 2&3/4 in the pipes and 3in in the resonator and mufflers. Thanks to Eric for posting these mufflers. This should be more then enough flow for me.

93 ragtop, thanks for calling MagnaFlow, saves me a call.
So it's a SS tru-X pipe dual 3" in and dual 3" out muffler.

Just to set the record straight, I talked with B&B about the differences between their X-pipe and their resonator installed on their 3" catback. On their dyno, LT4, the X-pipe didn't change the horsepower except maybe by 2-3 hp over their resonator. However, the X-pipe produced "30%" more resonance or noise than the resonator. It seems like exhaust systems are like opinions; everybody has one and each is different. Intertesting thread.

I have read many times that an x-pipe reduces resonance as compared to duals without it. I have seen some cars with 2 of them for that purpose.
