Default new rotors

Anybody have an estimate of how long it would take an average home mechanic person to change front pads and rotors. My Hawk pads and power slot rotors came today. Have speed bleeders and motul RBF 600 as well.Thank you.

If you don't need to bleed them, 1/2 hr to 3/4 total.......

Fantastic, that means a whole day for me too. I also have to change rear rotors as well. I know some members speak about changing pads and rotors for a race and back to road setup like it was a piece of cake well I suppose often enough it gets easy. Thank you.

Mike, be sure to super clean the rust build up that occurs between the rear of the rotor and the wheel bearing hub. Sometimes this alone can take an hour if very rusty. The rotors need to sit perfectly flat against the hubs.

Just wedg a strong screw driver inbetween the rotor and break pad the callaber side and push the piston back using the old break pad,to push against.
You can also open the bleader valve on the calaber and push the rotor piston back ,after the piston is back close the valve bleader.
Remove bolts and calaber.
Don't do this,below
Remove the rotor nut and cotter pin, reinstall the nut and pull the rotor towards you, bearing and seal will come out as a unit.

Sorry forgot it's a corvette, just did one of my fords yesterday and had to replace the bearings.
You don't have to do any of the above in small print, just remove calaber and rotor will fall right off.(after you remove the tire)
Install new rotor and make sure the slots face foward to the front of the car,not to the rear.
Then do the other side 2 hours if you have 3 thumbsl.
I don't blead the system unless it has a problem.
The cheater way is to get a syphon gun and suck out the fluid out of the master cyender and clean out the junk in it by removing the resavors and cleaning and reinstalling new fluid.

The truth for me, about a year and a half ago, one hour per wheel. The one hour includes jacking up each side, r and r each wheel, install each rotor, change the pads and loosed the bracket for the calipers.

I guess i'm not the fastest mechanic.

that sounds about right.....

edsalinas: half an hour??! It takes me 10 minutes just to drag out the jack and the jackstands, jack the car up and put the stands under it! Then:
Remove two front wheels. 5 minutes.
Find correct sockets and breaker bar: 3 minutes.
Remove calipers and pads: 20 minutes.
Rig up a device to break the rotors off the hubs: 45 minutes.
Install new pads: 6 minutes.
Clean and paint new rotors: 30 minutes.
Install new rotors; 2 minutes
Wire brush (clean) calipers: 20 minutes.
Install calipers: 10 minutes.
Find torque wrench, set to proper values and torque bolts: 10 minutes.
Clean and wax front wheels, dress tires, check air pressure, check for nails, wire, glass, staples, etc in treads: 75 minutes.
Install front wheels and torque lug nuts: 6 minutes.
Let car down, put jack and stands away: 4 minutes.
Change into clean clothes, wash hands: 4 minutes.
Test drive and break in new pads per instructions: 30 minutes.

Total: about six hours. But, you don't have to wash/wax the wheels....

I notice there was no time for a nap. I seem to spend most of my time saying "where the hell did I put the socket I just had in my hand" HO the joys of shortterm memory loss. A nap helps.
