Default DYNO set up?

What things can I do to ensure my car performs at its best on the dyno? Tire pressure? Oil Temps? Water temps low (180 +- 10)???

You can run 0 weight oil for a little more power, run VP 105 and add more timing. IF you have nitrous make sure you got a full bottle and run it over 1000psi.

Make sure you have the biggest fan you can find blowing right into your intake. If the dyno tech allows, you can keep a bag of ice on the intake the whole time you run.

Other than that just make sure your car is nice and cool.

Try to do it when the outside temperature is as cool as possible.

So's all that other b.s.!!! I wasn't going to say anything, but since you brought it up - it's not setting the car up to "perform it's absolute best", it's setting it up to produce a number that isn't an accurate representation of the car's performance capability on the street or track (bag of ice, 0W oil, etc.).

Well, I dynoed my car when the outside temp was 70*F and got 281RWHP. I went back to the same place when it was 107*F and got 265RWHP. Which am I to believe?

I would say when its 70* believe 281rwhp and when its 107* believe its 265rwhp.
I wouldn't doubt, not knowing all the other possibly different conditions, i.e. humidity, that it could vary that much in those different temps. Keep in mind, you probably ran a different number than 281 the run before that run so you also have to factor in the run-to-run differences that can happen as well.

I had a guy who was crazy about doing over 300rwhp. (mustang) so after we tuned it we still fell about 6hp short.

we aired up the tires to 40psi and put wet rags on the intake and the next pull did 305rwhp.

Both, and neither.

I would just set up the car for whatever conditions its actually driven in, 32-35psi tires and no special consideration for anything else, like bags of ice on the intake. A fan wouldnt be special consideration, since on the street you have air coming in anyway.

Otherwise, what good is this special stuff going to do you?

Preferably oil temps would be around 190-200ish, coolant as cool as possible.

I was just curious. I usually just drive in, hook up and let her rip.

It appears you have a reason for wanting to show the biggest dyno number you can...I look at it a bit differently...I want to show the lowest possible dyno number but still run real quick at the track...I get a big kick out of beating someone at the track and then they ask me how much HP I have...I tell them 278 RWHP (true) and they get all upset...he he he

I shoot for consistency and let the numbers fall where they lay.

Dyno is great for comparing modifications...but only if things are unchanged otherwise...

Very interesting........I thought we always looked at CORRECTED ratings that corrected for outside air temperature?????

So even if the actual tested rwhp varies with temperature the reported rwhp should be relatively constant?????

The other question I have is do you correct for outside air temperature or IAT.......these two can be quite different depending on your intake system.....

To get best actual hp you do want your intake air temp to be as cool as possible......hot intake air really kills performance.....]

I am only looking at getting my A/F ratio finalized. I dont care , too much, about the numbers. Its so hot and humid here, numbers are lower than norm anyways. There is no fan going, it is ina one door garage.

I know right.. i'm jsut glad I made the mark on him when he got his new motor..

He said he was going to be dissapointed if it didn't do 480rwhp.. first few pulls where barely 400.. with some work fiinally got it up to 480 without the damn rags, ice, and air pressure
