Default back from dyno!

Today was the day for the long awaited dyno time. We filled the car with 91 pump, topped off the 50/50 meth/water mix and headed to the dyno.

We were only allowed two runs on this dyno day and I had loaded the DFI program on my methanol/water tune which is a little on the lean side.

First run we discovered that the methanol was leaking at the nozzles (another story) so we were forced to turn it off. i almost didn't run becacuse I didn't want to lean out the motor without meth. But I wanted to dyno so bad that I just said f-it.

Anyway, No nitrous, no meth, 8psi she put down 530rwhp and 493rwtq. At 6500rpm it was leaning out to 12.9:1.

I am very happy with the number because I was expecting 550rwhp and 500rwtq with 8psi and methanol.

I am glad I have a baseline, I will keep this setup for a while and tune for the juice. I am shooting for 700rwhp with 150shot and 8psi.

Pretty cool,

Mine did 480rwhp on 7psi with a T trim, 355, very small cam.. I'm hoping to do numbers like yours with alcohol back on it and the same boost.

What alky kit did you use?

I am using the snow kit with dual nozzles. at first, I was really please with the system but now that I have been using it for a while it has really become a POS.

first, the tank was leaking at the fitting then today the nozzles blew off. I should have gotten the ECS kit.

what heads are you running? LT or L98?

I am glad to hear that you are finally getting somewhere with the tuning. Making 530 is pretty good for a baseline! What size injectors are you now using?

Yeah, just some pocket ported LT1's. Hasn't put down any good ET's yet but it traps at 94mph in the 1/8th now. Not bad considering the stock vortech pulleys, a cam that will pass emmissions and idle without a lope at all.

Tom,

a big special thanx to you! Definitely couldn't have done this without your help.

I am running RC 72# injectors.

Alvin,

480 is stout for that setup. I am sure you have the tuning dialed in.
How much hp can I expect with the methanol? I was thinking 20 with a semi-aggressive tune.....

Whoa your running some big injectors.. Do you have big plans later?

Actually you'd be surpized I just did a cheapo mr. freeze kit that picked up a mustang 50rwhp.. it went from 360rwhp to a touch over 400 at only 10psi.

The funny thing to realize is that you'llhave to throw in a bunch of timing to get it where it was before you sprayed the methonol then take fuel out to get the AFR's back in line.. It involves a complete retune.

Thanks, we where pretty surpized at how much this car did HP wize.. we only expected 430.. It is aftercooled, I don't know if i mentioned that.

Yea and no. I have a T trim but it is not intercooled. I have a spearco air to water intercooler that I will be adding later and hopefully be adding the boost to around 15psi. I actually had the smaller pulley on their a few months back and running around 12psi but without an intercooler and such a unreliable methanol system I decided to go back to the bigger pulley.

Right now I am seeing near 80% duty cycle with my 72#.

What snow kit did you have? the progressive or just on/off setup.

I'm building my own to suit my own needs and likes. Part of it will be a alcohol pressure switch so I know I'm getting the alcohol I tuned it for.

Thanks guys.

Alvin,
The snow kit I have is the progressive with dual nozzles. I have it set up where it starts at 4 psi and full by 8 psi.
How much timing can you typically add back with methanol?
Right now, at 8 psi I have my timing at 29*.
