Has anybody bought flowmaster mufflers that were not designed specifally for the vette (425501-L & 425501-R) and had them installed. I want to get the flowmaster 50 series mufflers but don't want the pipes and tips already welded to the muffler the right setup appears to be center inlet with dual outputs. Would the 8425502 flowmasters work they appear to be the same as the corvette specific one above.
All you need is the correct inlet/outlet and any competent muffler shop will be able to put mufflers on your car. I have 40 series Flows on my car and they are just generic Flowmaster mufflers. They are 2.5" offset inlet/2.5" center outlet (sorry don't know part numbers) and I then just picked the tip of my choice. A local muffler shop was able to weld the whole thing up w/out a problem
The 50 series Flowmaster is a very tight fit under a Vette. You want the offset inlet so you can position the inlet to the inside of the car. This will shorten the reach and help with the space issues.
I have the flowmaster 40 series on my 92 and they are loud but boy they sound good too. Really says power when you start off and again at about 2000 rpms and up. LT1 tips welded on by the way.
Flowmaster are a thing of the past.. they really don't flow that great compared to the straight though mufflers. I know TJWONG has a brand new Borla Cat back that he will get rid of at a good price.

Hey! Some of us like living in the past.
I installed the Flowmaster Super 40s on my '84 this summer (no catrs, just a nice 2.5" pipe with the mufflers). I used the offet input and the center outlet mufflers. They do resonate a bit, so I installed sound deadening in the rear compartment to knock most of that down. Sounds great from the outside, and is now tolerable inside. What was the original question???

I don't understand why you would say such a thing, but hey, to each his own. I think if you heard my car you would like it. There is no popping, no rattles, only a deep smooth tone. I appreiciate other exhaust sounds but Flowmaster gets my vote.

I had flowmaster on my car...Flowmasters are not a straight though design..But hey if you are happy with them hold on to them... I race my car and I look for every once of perfomance. Now I have a straight though design on my car.
I had a set of standard flowmaster 40 series mufflers installed on my car. Use 2.5" offset in, center out. If need be the muffler shop can expand the muffler opening somewhat to handle it (the LT1 has 2.75" exhaust to start with)

I had asked in the past about doing the exhaust - I was told that the stock LT1 necked down to 2.5" - not 2.75" all the way out.

It does neck to 2.5" a few millimeters before the muffler, but flowmasters are longer than your stock muffler, thus you end up further back, into the 2.75" pipe.
