I want to pick up an ODBI cable so that I can also scan my car with TTS Datamaster as well as my normal EASE program. What cables are people having success with? Does the 1227165 need the 10k resister mod for a $32b to be read correctly with Datamaster? I read the following on their page...
Note that the type "32" PCM must be placed in "10K mode" in order for DataMaster to communicate with it. This requires modifying the ALDL interface cable to install a 10K resistor between the ALDL pins labeled "A" (ground) and pin "B" (Diagnostic Terminal).
Additionally, for Corvettes it is necessary to jumper pins "M" and "E" together so that the interface can read the serial data stream.
If you purchased an interface from TTS, contact TTS about having this modification performed by the factory.

I use the 2 transistor cable, made from the schematics on Moates.net.
For the 165 (and 870) ECM you need the 10k resistor. You may or may not need pins E & M jumpered. Look at your ALDL and see if there are pins in positions E & M (remember there is no position "I"). Whichever one has a pin, that's the one you need to hook the serial data connector to.
Scorp, I have the AKM cable. Expen$ive but it works well with Datamaster, and its a mile long. I did have to get an RS232 adaptor since my laptop only has USB ports . Have you tried the Ease cable with Datamaster ??
I bought my cable off ebay, and wound up having to use a Belkin USB to serial emmulator. THere's something about other emulators that causes interference (the radio shack versions don't work), but that's what I had to do. If you're using a direct serial port... then who knows!
I really felt like getting this stuff to work was something of a black art, and every situation seems to be different....
Thanks for the help, guys. I'll keep this info for next time, but this time I just ordered an AKM cable with the 10k resistor in place. I'm not going to have time to build one before Saturday. I may go and modify this one though so I can switch the 10k resistor on and off.
