I finally was able to find a window for my drivers door. Everyone I called couldn't get it. I had to order it from the dealer. Since I ordered it from the dealer, the glass companys here doesn't want anything to do with installing it.
I have worked on cars for a long time. I have no problem taking the door apart and such, but I am looking for anyone who has installed a window before and has any suggestions on how to do it, things to look out for, and things of that nature.
Thanks
This should not take more than an afternoon. I replaced the door window weather strips and you have to take the window out to do that. (if your weather strips are old this may be a good time to do them, use GM replacements) I used the GM manual and it went well. However, when reinstalling the door hardware and pannels I left the window in the up position. This caused the door lock to jam in the locked position after reasembly. The lesson is to reinstall the door with the window in the down position.
I have not reset the glass as I am replacing all the weather strips and will do that as a final step. Hopefully someone else can help with the problem of resetting the glass.
On my '88 it would be relatively easy.
Remove the door panel and the Al cover plate.
remove the bolts holding the bottom of the window the it's frame.
Lift the window from the door.
If you mark the bolt & nut outlines getting the new window aligned after you install it should not be too tough of a task.
Just finished up, not a hard project at all. There are some special tools needed for the hardware that mounts to the window itself. I ended up using some tools from back in the day when I did car audio.
I did find another issue though.
