I've somehow developed a very annoying buzzing in my antenna. It seems to be draining my battery after a few days of sitting around. I'm not too worried about the antenna going up and down(it isn't moving now), but how do I stop that annoying buzzing noise?? Please help before I rip the thing off the car....
Buzzing while engine is running? Heard over the radio?
The two most common sources of this interference(engine running) is old/worn coil or spark plug wires. Sometimes even the sparkplugs can do this. There are other possibilites like bad RC cables/jacks in your stereo system(if you have them).
The battery drain is an odd symptom. I have a feeling I don't correctly understand your scenario.
The antenna assembly itself it buzzing, the car is on or off. Like the antenna is trying to move, but isn't. The thing won't every shut up, but I can't see an easy way to disconnect the wires to disable the power to it.
well mine is an 86 and it's easy. On mine there is a disconnect for the power antenna under the rear most interior trim, just to the left of the hatchback latch. Under this trim piece and below some padding is where one disconnects the power antenna, at least for an 86.
I'm guessing that the tape that raises and lowers the antenna is broken and the motor thinks it is either raising or lowering the antenna. Do a search on replacing the antenna mast. I believe that it can be done without removing the motor assembly on your 93. Not so on the 86 and 87. This happened on my 87 and I had to remove the entire motor/mast assembly to replace the mast.
Cheers
Steve
Nothing uncommon about these antenna's breaking the ribbon. I bought a new complete AC Delco unit on E -Bay to replace mine which was stuck in the up position. It lasted a total of 1 hour and the same exact thing happened to me with the buzzing sound coming from the antenna even with the key removed from the ignition.
I was at work and disconnected the battery to get it to stop. As luck would have it, a fellow C4 owner was there and told me about the disconnect coupler which I described earlier.
Bought another new antenna from Ecklers and replaced it and has been working ever since.
I do make it a point to leave the original Bose radio in the off position unless I want to actually listen to the radio. It does help minimize it's use and puts less wear on it.
