Default 3rd muffler system- still not happy...

So far,

I've had installed on my "91" L98 Vette, Magnaflow universal mufflers, KBD Stainless Steel Targa tip mufflers and today I had Flowmaster 40 series Delta flow mufflers installed.

The Magnaflow mufflers sounded too quiet at idle and WOT.

The KBD SS Targa muffler tips had too much interior resonance but, sounded great at WOT.

The Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow mufflers sound exactly like the KBD Targa tip mufflers with too much interior resonance.

At around $400 for each system installed, I finally had enough and ordered the Corsa L98 catback for $668.43 shipped from www.speedycarparts.com

I can't believe I wasted so, much money on the exhaust! I always considered the Corsa but didn't want to spend the money. Since exhaust sound is so, subjective I had to hear these systems for myself since sound clips of a stock L98 with all three cats are very few.

I'm going to remove the entire stock Y-pipe with the 40 series Flowmaster Delta Flow mufflers with stainless steel "SilverLine" tips and sell them on Ebay. I had to learn the hard way.

your problem can easily be solved by camming the engine and installing a set of long tube headers.....oh don't forget about the intake

You'll like the Corsas-Best of both worlds. Unique tone, little to no resonance and sounds sweet when your on it.

Yea we all learn the hard way. I had a set of Magnaflow mufflers on my car and while they sounded good, the resonace was unberable. I finally spent the money on the Corsa and couldn't be happier.

For a little more cash you can install a full dual system from Corsa that fits the later 92 and up LTx series cars. All you need to do is to get the factory GM front and rear exhaust hangers from any dealer. Then the LTx system just bolts up to the car. You will need some minor fit up to your stock exhaust manifolds or headers up front. And if you want to keep it with cats you can add two high flow Dynatech Headers metal cats onto the system as well.

That's about right, their systems aren't cheap. If you want quiet and cheap, try a stock LT1 muffler, guys practically give them away in the parts section.

I am in the same boat, I went from Flowmaster 40's (original) to Magnaflow and then back to stock LT1 mufflers. The sound was awesome, but damn, on long drives it just gets old. If an acoustic engineer could come up with a muffler that has the "I'm gonna rip your head off and crap down your throat" sound of the Flowmaster 40's but eliminate most of the resonance, they would be very wealthy.

One comment I have about the sound of LT1 mufflers with my long tubes and high flow bullet cats is that it sounds like an LS1 (hollow and tinny).

I thought I had seen posts from people who had
found the Flowmaster 50 Series to be a happy
balance?

Maybe they were an earlier design, but IIRC a
fellow in a club I used to hang with a number
of years ago had Corsa mufflers on an early L98.
I recall them being LOUD behind the car, a real
bark and sort of remniscent of an Italian V8
of one make or another. Loud - and I can't hear.

Corasa for the win!

Almost as quite as stock cruising (just a little deeper note) . Does not resonate at all! And when you stomp the pedal, watch out!

The $988 price is for the 92-96 Lt C4's, I purchased the "91" L98 Corsa exhaust system for $668.

I ordered the Corsa's on 10/18 and received an email today saying they're scheduled to arrive on 10/20.

I also, want to keep everything emmisions legal since I live in California.

I have never been satisfied with an aftermarket exhaust system for all the reasons mentioned here. I am very happy with what I have created. I have the stock mufflers and have electric cutouts that bypass the mufflers. So depending on my mood, I can have no resonance to really loud all controlled from inside the car.
