I noticed right after I had my fuel filter changed the car when it sat (over night ) took forever to start .I recently put a fuel press. gauge on & found out the pressure drops instantly from 42 to 0 when the car is turned off . Car use to start fine!!!!!Could the mechanic have put the filter on backwards & that be the problem? When he was changing the filter he was getting covered in fuel so I would say its a safe bet he wasn't paying attention..... 1996 LT4 !!
gee... I don't think the filter will do that... it may be flow dependant, but I don't think it acts as a check valve.
And smell of war fuel? I would wonder if the check valve in the pump hasn't quit.
I agree but I've read alot of threads on bad fuel pressure being linked to a bad filter, I just find it hard to believe that a fuel pump with 58,000 miles on it is bad!!!
I had the same problem with my '90 after the filter change......Turned out the filter outlet line fitting was half a turn loose and leaking. The car was hard to start and pressure would drop from 42 to 0 like a rocket when shutoff...Tightening the fitting solved the problem
