Default Oil consumption

This isn't actually on a Chevy, but another car I have but all of the ideas should run the same.

I've got a 89 5.0L with 69K miles.. SO the car did quite a bit of sitting. The problem I'm having is at prolong stoplights I get a terrible oil burning that carries on until I acclerate out. It doesn't burn oil on start up, nor does it appear to burn much oil under throttle. Also, its rather inconsistant.. Out of 20 lights it might do it at 5.. but no hint at the others.

Its consistantly out of the passenger pipe and this car has true duals (with a balance pipe). I pulled all the plugs out on that side and one of them was pretty cruddy with oil. The others looked like the roll-model example of a perfect plug.

I replaced the valve stem seals on that cylinder only (i'm not keeping this car... or I would have done all of them)

That didn't help.

The car passes a compression test and the questionable cylinder actually did a bit above average. This leads me to believe the car likely has a oil control ring problem. This car runs EXCEPTIONALLY well.. No hint of a busted up ring land by the way the car sounds and feels.

Anyone have any success stories they'd like to share on MMO or other products with situations simular to this? I was always taught there was no magic solution in a bottle but I believe this might be one case where it is an exception to that rule.

I think saturday after we get back from the track i'll pull that plug again and squirt a little marvel mystery oil in. I hope to hell I can get this thing fixed.. It runs too damn good to have a rebuild.

I also wanted to say that I completely blocked off the PCV high vaccum source because on this model it uses the problemmatic cylinder only as a vaccum source..

It didn't help.

Many years ago I had a '84 5.0 with one 'bad' piston. It pushed oil out of the dipstick and back through the PCV. Ended up being a busted ring land that just stayed between the rings and eventually rubbed and polished itself into much smaller aluminum wad, never causing any damage. The car ran great before and after replacing two pistons (we found a second piston just starting to crack along the same place).

sounds like you have an 89 mustang 5.0 that was notorious for burning oil.
