Who makes the best gasket remover. I am starting to put my car back together and thought it was all downhill from here. Was I wrong, I am removing the old timing cover gasket material and am having a beeatch of a time, any recommendations ????
Permatex makes a spray on gasket remover that works very well. Just spray it on, wait a few minutes, scrape off the goo, if theres more then repeat the process. And it don't even smell that bad

Don't get it on your skin though. It's also one hell of a paint remover, be careful where you spray it.

Yeah, the snotty napalm type stuff in the spray can is good stuff. And as long as you're working on steel, chisel away. You might even use a brass wire wheel on an angle grinder or something. I only use a razor blade or a very sharp chisel on aluminum.

Yep....you can gouge it very easily. The key to using the gasket remover is letting it sit long enough. I always go over the gasket surface with a good degreaser and then wipe it clean before applying the new gasket. Never had a leak yet.

I agree, I used a degreaser to loosen the material then a sharp raxor knife to clean the block.
