Default open loop closed loop ?

How do I test to see if my car is running in closed or open loop? It's a 90 auto Also my O2 sensor is located in my Y pipe right after the collector. Is this too far back? THANKS FOR THE INFO Pipe

I have a hand-held scanner I use on my 96, but it's OBD2, I;ve never had to scan an OBD1 computer but I would bet that a decent scanner would be able to monitor when your computer switches from open loop to closed loop.

On my 86 you can jump the "A" and "B" on the aldl and drive in field service mode. If the SES light flashes once every second, it's in closed loop. If it flashes once every 2 1/2 seconds it's in open loop. Maybe someone can verify if it's the same for a 90.

Iv'e read that the O2 can and cannot work that far back. Confirming closed loop should tell you. I'm going heated when i install my headers. The price is close to the same.
