Are you having trouble going into, or staying in closed loop?

No, I haven't installed them yet, just getting parts together. I know TPIS recommends them.

There is no way to definitively say one way or the other without a scanner to know if youre staying in closed loop at idle.

I found my Headmans caused the 85 to delay and to come out of closed loop. Like has been said, try it and see what happens.

My TPIS LT would go closed but I went heated last year anyway. Seems to like it better but I NEVER had any problems with out one.

It is just a matter of whether the O2 will get, and remain hot enough, to get into and remain in closed loop. It's largely a matter of where the header manufacturer places the O2 bung. I can easily tell if my car is in closed loop, at idle without a scanner. I simply use the "field service" mode of my ECM.
