well i get a code 34 - map sensor voltage low and maf sensor.....what does it mean?
i also get a code 24 - vehicle speed sensor, i swapped my 4+3 for a tremec 5 speed and havent got my speedometer going yet, i figure thats what the 24 is about.

It means that the voltage reading coming from the MAF sensor is not what the ECM is expecting to see from it, based on TPS, engine/vehicle speed and other parameters.

It means you are working on the wrong car. Your 1988 Corvette doesn't even HAVE a MAP sensor. Additionally, it means to follow the trouble shooting charts in your factory service manual, for a code 34, to isolate, test, and cure the cause of the code being set.

Most common cause of 34 is faulty MAF relay(s)
On an 88 they are the pair mounted to the wheel well in front of the battery
One is the power relay and one is the burn off relay but according to THE GORDEN and first hand experience, replace tem both at the same time. Be sure, of course to clear the codes
