I am replacing a CCM in a members 95 Corvette die to a intermittant no crank condition (diagnostics complete its the CCM). The factory service manual says if CCM replacement is need call the techincal hotline??? I know it has to be programmed, can someone give step by step directions via a tech1a or Tech2.
The CCm is located behind the radio/AC unit. The VATs key will program automatically when you insert the key and turn the ingnition on. Make sure you clean the key before you install it. The mileage has to be set with a Tech1A. You have only 16 miles you can drive before the mileage is no longer programmable.
Thanks, I did know that part, its the downloading the data from the old CCM I am unsure about. I have a Mass storage cartridge on my Tech1. Do I just go into programming menu and get info. I want to ask how before I just try is that if I make a mistake, I cant undo it, I guess that is my main question. If the upload fails then BOTH new and old ccm are no good right? The data is erased from the old CCM after upload (or download to tech1a is another way to put it) so you only get on shot at getting it right?
Yes you only get one shot. However some of the speedo shops are figuring the CCms out where they are rebuilding them which means anything is fixable. I believe it is in the programming on the Tech1a.
Tech1A is a two way code reader used by chevy dealer, called out in the FSM. Sometimes you see them on E-BAy with different cartridges for around $400.00

If a ccm is not programmed in 16mi will the only outcome be no miles or start over@ zero . By speedometer are we speaking only of the Odometer? Please explaIN the ramifications of not having a dealer program it & continue to drive it.
Thank You.
If it isnt programmed you run the risk of vats pellet becoming somthing different. ALso, it will show that the CCM isnt original with the car if you dont program it. I just want to know if when you download the OLD ccm data does that (old)CCM become ruined. I want to be able to mess one up if I do something wrong and know it can be fixed.
