Default Mini ram or super ram

I am looking to build a supercharged 391, and I can't decide which to use. I have read some people having issues with using a mini ram on a forced induction set up and I am looking for some input from someone with first hand experience. Also does anyone know the intake port size of the mini ram?

When you order a Mini, you get your choice. Felpro. 1204, 1205 or 1206 gaskets. Try the C4 FI/Niitrous forum on here for the scoop on forced induction ins and outs.

I perfer the Mini over the Super, the mini has very short runners , and very high port velocity, the super ram has long runners and wide cross section ,usually slows things down. Also u dont have to worry about the vac. leaks with the mini (lt1 style 1 peice plenum). The super maybe better for TQ but high rpm the mini is king IMO. I had a mini with dart pro 1 heads on mine on a 406 and it reved to the sky, and made lots of power(480 rwhp, 459 ftlbs) @6600. This was on a n/a engine, the guy that tunes it for me in maryland had a 396 SBC with afr heads and mini with t trim i think and it made somthing like 850 hp or somthing. contact him a

the miniram has a slightly lower TB opening, and I think that's where some of the F/I people have problems (clearance at the throttle body) - not entirely sure though.

I would think that a F/I setup will have ZERO problems making torque! So go for flow, ease of install and to accentuate HP since you'll have more torque than you can use anyway - my vote is for LT-1 style/miniram.

with bigger cubes, it is proven a miniram will outgun a superram.

i have to say i hate my supper ram cause of the install and related issues. even though its working now im reading more and more about the mini being better in more ways than one. so my question to all those of you that respond to this post is with my 383 set up will the mini ram work better for me? im after hp. i can make up for low end torq with better shifts. quick specs: 383, 58mm tb, 224/230 cam, stock heads, long tube headers, gutted cat, all msd iginition.

My vote is for the stealth ram but seeing how it doesn't fit vettes to nicely I'll settle on the miniram.

Just let me know, I'll take care of you..

My personal choice in intakes is probally alot different than what alot of people decide on. I like the superram for mild 350 builds. I think the miniram gets a bad rap because people exaggerate where it makes its peak torque. The miniram is just like the LT1 to me which makes broad torque and can pull confortably pass 6k.

The stealth ram to me is the best of both worlds, great plenum volume and a awesome runner at a middle of the road lenght.

Well i think the mini when port matched to your own heads(in my case 1206) it is very effective for large cubes, For a stock headed engine with no extreme port work i think a super ram or big mouth intake would be the best choice. i do like the Stealth ram and have meet a guy here in maryland did aalot of fab. work to his to make it fit a stock hood, and it rolled on a 406 to 11 dohs i think with about i would say 48-500 hp with solid roller set up. Very sweet car wish i could track him down to let u guys know what he did to make it fit

No two motors are the same.

Oh, and regardless, I have a mini 350 and even if I give up a little tq to the SR in the 3-4,000 rpm range I OK with that as my stall gets me thru those numbers fast enough anyway. And with gears this year is going to help it even more.
Plus the MR isn't the bitch to work on.

Default One choice here.

If you live in California or one of the states that has their smog laws there is only one choice that is CARB EO legal. Thats the Super Ram. All others are insta fail, for no EGR etc. You can try to rig up a remote EGR but I was once failed for having my timing 2 degress off so it's kinda a crap shoot. If you have no smog to worry about then I envy you very much. and would probably think Mini Ram for ease having just put a Super Ram on the car and never wanting to do it again. If you don't mind buying one of those cool looking 4 inch raised cowl hoods you could get a HSR. I hear they are a bit tall normally. Look sweet though.

Also depends a lot on what you are using the car for. Those pseudo tunnel ram looking ones are great for drag racing but if you are doing Solo II or lots of street driving or tight road courses having the huge wide powerband of the Super Ram is nice.
