Default Help with Dash board removal

Does any one know the order in which parts should be removed when completely removing the dash board from an 89 or earlier C4?

Does everything unbolt?

Thanks!

As i remember you had to remove plastic covers around the center panel and instrument cluster to get at those screws but my memory sometimes is wrong.

Thanks, do you recomend removing anything else first to make things easyer to remove, e.g. Steering wheel ...

I just went out and looked at my old pad and it had 3 screws above cluster, 2 screws above center and 1 screw all the way on the right side. I think i had to remove fuse panel cover to get at that one. Theres clips that hold the pad down next to winshield, just pull pad straight to you after you get all the screws out. Remove tilt lever to get panel out from cluster, be gentle pulling that piece of plastic out in front of cluster. remove center plastic first. Good luck.

It's helpful but not necessary to remove the dash bezels. There's about 4-6 screws going up into the front ledge, none on the passenger side... and two on the defroster vent.

Then open both doors and pull straight back. There's clips that hold it in place.

There are a couple of locations on the very ends under the side bezels. Remove the fuse bezel and the speedo/tach bezel to reach them. It's not unusual for them to have been removed during a previous dash removal but in case the dash has never been removed you might find it won't budge because they're still there. As mentioned there are the ones along the front leading edge above the speedo/tach bezel and above the defroster/radio bezel. Also the ones toward the windshield in the defroster vent area. I do lower the steering wheel with the tilt lever, then unscrew the tilt lever from the column, it helps. If you remove the speedo/tach bezel you'll have to remove the headlight ****. It's a little trickey. Turn on the headlights. If you rotate and look under the **** there is a slot on the the side where it goes over the triangular shaft. Use a small blade screwdriver an slide it into the slot so it touches the metal clip. You want to pull the screwdriver toward the **** and not toward the dash so you're pushing the metal clip toward you. Don't insert the screwdriver between the clip and the ****. It'll slip right off without even touching the ****. Remove all the speedo/tach bezel screws on the front and side. If you pull the side of the bezel away from the side of the dash you can rotate the bezel toward you and the steering wheel and it'll slide out. Once that bezel is off you can remove the center defrost radio bezel. Now you can see all the screws under the edge of the dashboard.
