Default No codes

Last week my 86 4+3 started running bad, and my service engine soon light came on. I put it away in the garage and that night I started it up again. Run fine, and no service engine soon light. I used the paper clip to A-B two different times and both times all I got was SERVICE ENGINE SOON. As far as I know, I did it right!!!! Put the clip in A+B ---turned the key to on----and waited each time for a few minutes. Why not any codes. Is somthing wrong with my ECM or what???

If the light works and you can't even get code 12, then, yes it may very well be the ECM.

So... you jumpered A to B

OOOOAB
OOOOOO

And then turned the key on. And the light didn't flash morse code at you? The electric fan didn't come on, or the overdrive light come on?

Sounds like your jumper wire isn't making contact.

That's what it's supposed to do.

Watch the flashes.

flash flash pause flash is code 21.

It'll do that three times then flash each trouble code three times.

flash flash flash pause flash flash is code 32, and so on.

When it flashes 21 again, it's done. The codes will repeat after that. Also, code 21 is not a trouble code.

Now I get it!!!! I was looking for numbers, not the amount of flashes!!!! I had code 12---34, and 42. I know the last two is what I'm looking for. I'll get the book out tomorrow and see whats up. Thanks for setting me stright on this. Dave

Not to nit pick but...code 12 is the one he is looking for to begin and end the sequence......we'll get him all looking for 21.

Mine never flashed for some reason.Still waiting for some one else that is the same.No biggie I'd rather use the Digital any way it breaks the codes down into modules.
