I have all new pads and my 92 stops okay but if I make have to lean on them very much the pedal effort seems too hard to get very little additional stopping power. Compared to my other cars with ABS that can really grab hard without any real pedal effort. What could be going on?
Thanks
and if you have the plastic one, they are suseptible to heat and may have a crack you can't see without removal-per another forum members post. Also, if it is, IMHO, I'd replace it with the metal booster.BTW, do you see any RPM difference when you are parked and apply the brakes? that's another indication of a booster with a vacumn leak (crack if you will).

Hey Rick I just installed a new brake booster because my old one was bad and the RPM's changed like you said when I used the brakes. Anyways I just installed a NEW metal one and the RPM's still change. Do you think my new one is bad too?
Thanks for the tip. I bought it and will change it this weekend.
I hope a used plastic booster works out for you. there have been numerous threads on this over the past year - typically about how hard it is to do the change (I found it to be easy - others struggle mightily) and options for replacement.
anyone who has went with these guys http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/boosterchev.html
have been very happy - the units go in - do not require rod adjustment and work great. The new metal unit costs 129 bucks - they get it to you in 2 or 3 days.
Good luck to ya!

Reason: fixed typos
I have a 94 with the same symptoms of which I posted a detailed description 3/27/06 in general area (poor braking). With engine off pedal is like a rock and does not sink. With engine on pedal does not sink but I can push the pedal to the floor. This can happen while im driving if I really get on the brakes. My booster is metal and no RPM drop. My responces have been to change the master cylinder or fluid. I will bleed it good before I do the master. Just starting on my problem. Everything individually looks good but as a system works bad.

Reason: Additional information
If it goes to the floor when the engine is running - thats not the booster!

I agree that it is not the booster. I will probably end up at the M/S. If I get there I will post it but got other problems to solve first so this one will have to wait its turn.
As far as I know 93 to 96 takes the plastic booster unless it is a ZR1 then that is a a different booster. The ZR1 boosters had a dual diaphram setup. I just installed a new GM plastic booster into a 96 LT4 car. There was no other boosters available for this car. I took the original booster into a rebuilder and they just laughed As far as they are concerned these are not rebuildable, the housing breaks when they attempt to take them apart, and plus they don't have the kits available to them to rebuild them. The new GM units are still available but they are not cheap.
