help - brake booster question
I am having some problems with the braking in my car. There is obviously air in the line for every time i brake/ pump the pedal it gets stiffer. I have checked everything over, and cant find any leaks at the calipers. I did find a few drops of brake fluid on the bottom side of the brake booster.
My question here is.. Does fluid actually go into the brake booster? Or is the fluid perhaps the master cylinder leaking off and running down? Can someone please tell me how I can determine which would be the cause of the leak? I dont want to replace a 200 dollar unit, when the bad part is the other 200 unit
Any input welcome!
Sounds like you have a master cylinder seal leaking, which is allowing the fluid to enter the booster. It's a pretty common problem; been there.
Left un-repaired, it'll ruin the booster too. So you'll end up replacing both the master cylider and the booster.
Repair it as soon as possible is my advice.

When my booster had a crack in it, I'd brake in the normal manner, but the car wouldn't stop and I'd end up half-way through a red light before it did.
I couldn't find the crack until I removed it from the firewall, then I saw it. It was on the engine side of the booster, beginning in about the 7 o'clock position and continuing up to about 11 o'clock.
Hope this helps.
