Gents,
I want to install a roller cam into my 85 block. I understand I need aftermarket roller hyd lifters but will a 1987 L98 roller cam fit my block?
I want a roller to pep things up a bit but also want to pass smog.
Any ideas welcome! :smash:
You will need the following parts:
Comp Cams lifters PN: 853-16
Pushrod length: 7.290
Better Springs!
If you are going to go through this much trouble, you might as well get a better cam than a stock '87 cam. We custom make cams and have quite a few that will boost power very well and pass emissions, but they are billet cores and probably a little more than you need. There are also a wide range of shelf cams that you can get that will pick up power output a bit more than the '87 and pass emissions.
Good luck,
Wouldn't you also need a cam button or retainer
plate to keep the cam from walking forward? Is a torrington bearing or fiber thrust plate needed behind the cam gear? Should you check the clearance between the cam button and the front timing cover? What chain/gear set is required? Any other details?

You'll need the roller cam, retro-fit roller lifters, pushrods (to do it right, you have to check them with a length checker), late style (roller) timing set, and a cam button.
Hope this helps.
