The odds you damaged the MAF by removing screens is not high. Many people have done this without problem. What you don't want to do is remove fins in MAF airflow passage. They are cooling fins for electronics. Cut them off and you fry MAF electronics. Ask me how I know. Its easy the mess up pins in MAF connector when making or breaking connection. Check you haven't bent any pins in connector.

I have been running about 6 years on an IROC that has the fins cut off on the MAF and my 85 has them cut off also. In fact, PCMFORLESS asks you if the MAF is descreened and ported. I think that means is the fins cut.
Is that the only thing you messed with? I'd go buy a new MAF from the auto parts stores and swap it out with your old one. See if the car runs better with the new one. If it does, you know for sure it's the MAF. Then you can put it back in the box clean, return it, and look for a better price elsewhere. I removed my screens and it did not affect the car in any negative way.
Some autoparts stores won't let you return electrical parts.

You are right. But some do. These places just open the box, glance at the part, and as long as the box and the part is clean with no grease or signs of installation, they take it back without a problem.
I thought early on that ZR1 Racer had come clean on the ownership of the ZR1 auto with N2O. Did I miss something here as he continues to be in the middle of the beating.
