Try disconnecting the battery, leave it sit for a few minutes, hook it back up and try again.... Dont really think it will do anything but maybe. If not then go buy a new one

It may not be the MAF, check all the connectors before buying stuff.

Default Not the screens

The odds you damaged the MAF by removing screens is not high. Many people have done this without problem. What you don't want to do is remove fins in MAF airflow passage. They are cooling fins for electronics. Cut them off and you fry MAF electronics. Ask me how I know. Its easy the mess up pins in MAF connector when making or breaking connection. Check you haven't bent any pins in connector.

I've read this mod is a waste of time & shows no real gains. I cant see how much air flow there is to gain by doing it. In fact, it sort of makes sense that the air would be atomized a little more running through a screen rather than just a open passage.???

Nope.... Anything in said open passage is a restriction.... and as far as "atomizing" the air a little more, I think that air is about as atomized as its gonna get.... Its fuel that gets atomized

Is that the only thing you messed with? I'd go buy a new MAF from the auto parts stores and swap it out with your old one. See if the car runs better with the new one. If it does, you know for sure it's the MAF. Then you can put it back in the box clean, return it, and look for a better price elsewhere. I removed my screens and it did not affect the car in any negative way.

i saw a couple of mafs cheap on ebay. why not replace used with the same. just get a non-doa guarantee from the seller.

but before you buy anything, do like the guys say and make sure it isn't wiring or connector related. old electrics can get real pissy and pick the exact time you don't need a problem to cause you one. you know, it could all be karma related.

have you been naughty or nice?

you cheap b*stard. that's the best idea i've heard all week.

some gurus are always preaching that you're an idiot to throw money at a problem. pacer has shown us a way to do that and get a refund at the end of it all if it wasn't the part.

although, i'd make sure you can get a refund on electrics first. this scenario is probably the reason why some stores won't give you one. people put a part on a bum circuit, fry the new part, and claim it was fried from the beginning.

froggy.

Autozone, 159.99 exchange, rebuilt Bosch unit.

Noticed 0 difference between screen/descreened in mine, left it alone this time.

Yeah, just make sure it's real clean. I've done some good troubleshooting this way.
Sometimes it's just faster and easier to just swap the damn thing with a known good component than to bust out the shop manual and do a troubleshooting, ect. Yep, I'm a cheap bastard sometimes.

This was my point exactly. Why fool with it?

And, I know fuel gets atomized, so will air in a matter of speaking. If you route air through a smaller opening it picks up speed. So, if you blast some air through a screen it would move through each hole in the screen a little faster, hence the airstream will be broken up into smaller parts.......also known as atomization.
