Default TB bypass question

I live in atlanta, and it never gets very cold here, so I was going to put in a throttle body bypass kit. I have read that it is easy, but I am not quite sure where to reroute the coolant line. it seems that there is always something in the way, whether it is the intake, or other lines. does anyone have experience with this that could tell me how/where to route the line? Pics would be awesome too if you have them.

thanks guys,
CJ

You can see from the diag, outlet below the TB, then over to the Heater line. See my pic for the rout.

I did my TB bypass a little different from vinnie. I removed the hoses from the throttle body (2) and plugged the holes. I then cut the line from the heater to the TB just behind the right front wheel and added a NAPA 5/8 hose splicer. I then ran a new line from the splice toward the front of the car and turned the hose toward the center of the car and into the outlet fitting on the front of the intake manifold. I wish I could post a picture as was done by vinnie.....but I am not familiar with how to do it. Send me you email address (samlam@charter.net) and I will send you a pic of my bypass. The TB bypass is easy to do and it removes some of the clutter around the TB.

What year is your car? That makes a lot of difference in how it can be accomplished. Some years, like later LT1s, require no parts to do this.

There are several ways to do this procedure. Sounds like a medical procedure? Disconnect both hoses from the T/B ( inlet and outlet). Cap the T/B connections. Connect the two hoses that you removed from the T/B. Hope I didn't confuse you. Its simple.

I removed the coolant passages completely from TB. Tossed the the long hose going to TB and the short hose from TB to intake. I cut a new length of hose and attached it to the heater line and routed it under the ac compressor to the intake. I had to tweak the steel heater line a bit so it was a smooth bend to route hose under ac.
You don't see the hose which is cleaner looking compared to a hose crawling over your valve cover.

AGENT, can you show a pic? I cannot find anywhere to route it safely other than have it resting ontop of the AC compressor. It looks like crap there & would love to move it, but just cannot see how.

I tried between the fuel lines & compresor bracket..wont fit. Anywhere else, it will get kinked because of the bends.

I don't have a pic that shows detail. I have just started my teardown to pull the motor so the hose is already removed. On my 86, there is enough room to go through the bracket and under compressor and comes out the other side and straight into the intake. I'll take a pic tonight to give you a better idea. Damn, 2 days ago i could have taken a pic while still hooked up.

sorry, mine's a '91 L98, and I can't seem to fit the hose cleanly through anywhere without kinking it. thanks for the help though guys!

edit:also, do i need to drain the coolant or anything? I dont want to mess up the optispark or anything else for thatmatter.

You can see the hose running between the compressor and the valve cover. Goes under the compressor/thru the bracket and then in front of the engine.
Of course this is an 88 model.

No, you don't need to drain the coolant. Your 91 doesn't have and Opti so you don't even need to worry. Optis are only on LT1s/LT4s. I'd say, you should do this when the engine hasn't been run for 24 hours so coolant won't be spurting out everywhere. When I did this mod, I only lost about 8 oz of coolant at the most. Not a big deal and no coolant draining needed!
