Ever since I had the car in for a safety inspection, the check engine light comes on whenever I put gas in. As part of the test, they pressurize the cap.
As soon as the tank reaches half full, the light goes out and stays off.
Time for a new gas cap, or could it be something else?
see u got a 96, always nice to know what year. anyway-don't know about 96, and it may indeed be the cap, but, I had my Focus in the dealership, and it seems alot of fuels according to a Ford memo
are causing similar problems with fuel guages, 02s etc caused by sulphur contaminated fuel-their memo recommended Chevron techron-
just thought I would throw it in-I was using Shell.
I don't have a code reader. I was reviewing the owner's manual, and it said that it could be contaminated fuel or a bad fuel cap.
I will run the fuel out of this tank, and if that does not clear it up, I will replace the cap. If that doesn't work, I will have to take it to the local Chevy dealer (gag) and have them read the codes.
First-get some Chevron Techron Plus Fuel System Cleaner in what gas you have left, then fill it up somewhere else-my suggestion would be a Chevron station.
Second-go to this site and learn how to read, diagnosis codes without
any special equipment-other than a paper clip!!! http://www.c4vettes.com/ecm.htm
