Carfax is sometimes wrong. The last time I got it e-checked it was at 63K, when I logged onto carfax it had said at that time it was 93K!!!!. So even that can mess you up.
Carfax milage reports depend on data entered right and can sometimes get screwed up on milage BUT I have never heard of one that said a car was salvaged and it was not.
Besides, that process is hard to pull off without the right equipment, that is either too expensive or hard to acquire.
It is not that hard or expensive if someone wants to do it.It certainly is worth the money if you make a 60k car a 15k car.And I was not the only one wondering since he did not repost the carfax info since we were willing to help but asked for answers ourselves.I have apoligized to him.

Good question. I wished I had thought of it.
But seriously, if it is a real GS that has a questionable odometer history, I’m sure the GS registry would be familiar with it.
Not only would I not bet the farm on the reliability of carfax, I wouldn’t even bet a chicken.
Holy crap you guys are ******* sometimes. Just because the guy doesn't get on the CF every damn day he is a scammer. Oh my GOD, it took him THREE days to respond! He must be a scammer.
One of the problems you may encounter down the road is if a higher mileage was previously recorded by DMV and then a subsequent lower mileage was again recording by DMV. An inconsistent or lower mileage than previous collected by DMV by smog tests or other methods that show up in the databases that Carfax and others use to supply reports will cause a problem. These reports will show an inconsistent mileage and send up a red flag. Even if you change the odometer to the correct mileage, the damage is already done. You will find it impossible to convince DMV or even Carfax to change anything. You may be able to prove to subsequent buyers any and all documentation that will prove the car actually has higher mileage. But if everything looks ok on a Carfax report then you will only have the guilt of knowing the car has higher mileage than it really has.
You also mentioned you had to go to court. What was the infraction? And what are you expected to prove/disprove?

Carfax comes back clean .But Carfax is not always accurate . The seller said he bought the car with 13,000 miles now it has 15,000 he had it for 3 years .He could have put any amount of mileage on this car and them turned it back to 15,000 Carfax would have no idea .
I dont know what is going on lately my contractor walks away with $20,000 of mine now iam screwed for another $20,000 all in 6 months time .
When you buy a car with 15,000 miles on it , do you think the seats should have been replaced with cheap vinyl .how about the rugs should they be replaced to ,should the front balljoints need replacement I never had this problem with any of my other Vettes My 94 has 50,000 miles it still has the original seats and carpet .I dont know where some of you people get the nerve from to accuse me of a scam. For everybody else thanks for your help .
How did you miss the cheap vinyl seats, junk carpets and worn out ball joints when you were looking at the car!???
You even have another Vette to compare to.
carfax is often wrong it aid mine was a one owner but when i got it the guy said he had bought it from a friend and it was originally a california car then spent time in N.O. and then dallas and i have receipts that back this up

carfax is only as accurate as the data it gets.
So if the states, insurance companies and manufacturers don't share, welp... Carfax never learns.
