What is the downside of putting the left side wheels on the right side and vise-versa? I have a 90 vert with chrome wheels and everyone says the are on the wrong side. They were on this way when I bought the car. I kinda like them on 'backwards' as opposed to the way they are supposed to be on.
I think the wheel design contributes to airflow to the brakes, installing them backwards reduces the effectiveness of cooling. I don't know if there is any structural issues running them backwards, probably not. Good luck.

Thats correct. Its designed to flow air and cool brakes.
If you've got uni-directional tires then the only way to move them to the other side is to swap tires left to right while moving the wheels to the other side.
There is an up side to this...you'll know who the real Corvette enthusiast are when your riding down the road.
"Hey!! You know you got your wheels on backwards?"
