I have been having traction problems the last 2 summers and I finally did what Ive been avoiding. Rebuilt the posi in my Dana 36 last week. I really did not want to remove the exhaust, C beam, spare tire and all the other stuff, but right rear tires were getting expensive. The good news is that I found what I expected. The clutch retainers were shot. The main problem was the conical washer that holds pressure on the clutches on the driver side was flat and burned. I'm not sure it will show up, but I included pics. The one on the left is flat. The one on the right is still ok. The 4 small parts hold the clutches in place and they were nearly worn through. If your burn-outs feel uneven, this may be what you will find.

Would this be why my passenger side rear is almost a slick while the drivers side rear is not? I've also had a slight clunk on de-acceleration for the 2+ years I've had the car. The local Corvette guru told me that was in spec but I sure don't remember my 88 having either that clunk or that particular rear tire wear pattern. TIA....
Tj, yes it could be. I have tried my best to avoid this job, but my last 2 sets of 315s lasted 6 to 8k miles. Just killed the right side tire. Its really noticable in the rain. Accelerate from a stop and you can feel one side break loose real easy, before the other side. (if you stay on the gas).Have you noticed this at all? I' hoping to gain some et as well as tire life. If the weather is good I will find out soon.

I definitely have noticed the rear kicking out on straight line acceleration. Did you you have the clunk as well?
No noticable clunk,(except the 700R4) but then my hearing sucks. The tire wear is what we have in common, for sure. Especially , if your alignment looks ok. This is a job that is hard to do. I must have crawled under the car 100 times. I did not have a special tool that is needed and had to fabricate one. Its definitely a 2 man job, also. If you can, farm this job out to a pro.

I've got four months left on the extended warranty and two new BFG KDWS 285s on the way so I guess now is the time to get it taken care of...
