I would do the 383. Its just plain easier. All the parts are available, and lots of other people use this set up, so you can find help and ideas easier. IMHO

Lol, it's like asking-

"Hey, I am going to Europe, can you tell me where to eat?"

Well, it depends on what you like to eat, your budget, where you are going in Europe, and about a million other things.

What's the goal with the car? Ultimate power production, reliability, forced induction, etc...

What's the budget?

If it were me, and I had a huge pile of money to sink into the car, I would build a low compression 355, and pay LPE to turbocharge it. You could make 600+ RWHP and be 100% daily driver with a set-up like that.

You seem like your trying to get every bit of HP out of the car. A 396 will put you well into the 400rwhp range. I voted for the 396!

It could put you into the 400rwhp range.

I have a mild 406 that doesn't put out anything near 400 crank hp....and there were lots of 396 big blocks that were rated at 375 crank hp (gross) and less back in the day.

All that said, there is no substitute for cubic inches, especially in a street machine.

Into the 400hp range with the other mods like poted heads/cam etc. that ABOATGUY is doing to his ride.

How about going this way?

355 with a very mild cam.. nice pistons.. Decent rods, good bolts and a vortech or procharger...

A 355 is a hole lot less expensive and can perform damn good

That is a awesome price. I would pick the 224/224 cam with 110 LSA and youll need long tubes with that.
