Some may have seen my plea for help with a poor idle problem and the insueing woes with not being able to get the 85 to run at all. After the &th Calvary came to the rescue I finally got around to finishing the basic tune to make the old girl driveable. Short version of another long story: Ran but wouldn't idle, 1100 min. Tried to force an idle by cranking out the adj screw ( needed to get the beast civilized so I could adjust idle correctly). No go and got code 21 TPS voltage high. Put my meter on the TPS and got a reading of 11.97 volts! Quick resistance checks confirmed the TPS was shorted. A new TPS did the trick. Idle is rock steady and the acceleration off idle is especially strong.
Lesson learned: THe simplest of parts going south can cause you serious grief, pain and dollars. I obviously never suspected a TPS and the obvious indicators did not point in that direction. Hopefully my unfortunate experience will help somebody with a similar problem.
Brain Fart 101. Make that 4.97 volts. Sorry guys. We had the house recarpeted today and my butt is dragging from moving stuff. I tried to make that post between trips to sort things out for the installers.
