Looks like a lot a work there. How did you cut the runners like that, or did you have them milled? I'm guessing you're running an after-market intake? Nice work...

I would use duct tape. If you are not able to track some down you could always TIG weld the original piece back in.

Come on Dan, everybody knows you have to use "scotch-tape & bubblegum".

Awesome work! What's the hole diameter of the runners where the runners are bolted onto the base? I think the stock base is 1.5". Did you port the base, too? Do you have pics of that if you did?

I just bought an Accel base. The base holes where the runners bolt up is about 1.7". The stock base is 1.5". I think there's plenty of room to get 1.8 and maybe 1.9". I read on here where one guy got a 1.5" grinder to have 3/8 inch clearance around it in the base intake tract, so that's 1.875". I'm going to port the crap out of my base and then try to fab up some custom runners that aren't really runners at all but basically are like attaching the plenum right to the base. Should be interesting.

I'm almost finished porting my intake as well and will post pictures in the next few days.

Tools were pretty easy. I used my 1000 RPM drill with a sanding drum kit from Menards. $4 I think it cost, there are different grit drums. WD-40 for lube. The drill turns slow enough to remove casting ridges and flash while not digging into the base. I did not port my base, it is the TPIS big mouth. I figure it should flow enough air for a 350 CID in the size that it is. So that is cleaned up and polished. The base, TB, runners, and plenum are all port matched. That looks really sweet.

The AS&M runners I used a stone ($3) on my die grinder ($18 both from Menards) to port match the runner with it's flange. There were ridges. I then used steel wool to polish. So smooth!

The plenum took some real time. I used a carbide bit ($3 from Menards or it may have been Fleet Farm) in the round shape but with threads on the tip so that you can grind straight on if you need to. It's for wood and soft metal. I would say with what I did it's about half worn out. It's the bit (quarter inch) that has what looks like paddles on it. For an extension ($5 Menards) I used a 4" long drill extension, at the end there are two screws to screw down what ever size bit you place in the extension. To use hexagonal bits in the round 1/4" collet of the die grinder I had to grind the base round of the bits.

The plenum was supposedly ported by TPIS. If so it was not good. I had much work to do on the ridges just inside the TB. I removed all the ridges by the ports. Looking down through the plenum now it is unrestricted air flow to the ports. I am trying to decide weather to polish the plenum any. I'm wondering if turbulance helps slow the air helping it make the corner into the runners.

Anyways, those are the tools I used. I was very happy with how things worked.
