just dropped the rebuilt engine back in today, WOOT . Anyways im getting rid of practically all of my emmisions stuff, that means getting rid of the air pump. The replacement pully is too much. I'd rather just leave it on there instead of paying i think $130 for a dummy pully. Can i just get a shorter belt? will i need to change the belt path? i would just try to figure this out myself, but im sure somone has done it and i dont have any of the front part of my engine back on yet. Thanks
Matt
My feeling is half the appeal of the delete kit is how it cleans up the engine. Someone out there in C4 land may have one kickin around. Try posting a thread in C4 parts for sale as you might be able to pick one up for a song.
but i relocated my alternator to where the air pump was (had to fab a couple flat brackets from alum plate) aaaaannnnndddd used a shorter belt (93 chev van v6 no air, i think-its writen on a note out in the car--i'll check if u need it)
Yeah I find the A.I.R. pump pretty annoying. By deleting it what do you gain? I mean if you just replace it with a dummy pulley it will still have the same amount of drag unless its a performance pulley, in which case I could understand why it would be an expensive kit.

Not much. Cleans ups the enigine bay more than anything. I could not justify the cost of the eliminator pulley. I just gutted mine. It's just there spinning doing nothing. No more noise.
relocating the alternator up to where the air pump was puts the alternator in a higher air flow area and allows more air alongside the motor...with the alternator up there is no need for any new pulley
you can get a good guess at what your ''re-engineered'' belt length needs to be by running your yo-yo (steel measuring tape) around the belt path ...go to the parts store and belt part numbers indicate length and number of grooves--tell the parts guy you're brewing something and will need to exchange a couple times to get it right cause you will (never had the parts guy say no to me)
REDROSE,
Do you have any pictures of your mod? I would find this very interesting to see. Also the actual belt length you used (that you said you might have) would be good too.
Thanks
Dave
i've got a $20 digital camera and would be glad to post--just tell me where to go (to find out how to post em)
belt i've got on now is a napa 25-060780...i think the ''06'' means 6 groove, and 0780 means 78 inches long (seems like the right length--old age,the mind is second to go)...i'm using the cs-130 alt now cause it look better--i had a cs140 on earlier and that needed a belt 1 inch longer because brackets were higher to clear the rocker cover
redrose,
Posting pictures is something I have never done...yet. I have only just moved into the digital camera age myself and have difficulty viewing pictures on my PC never mind posting them on a forum. Unfortunately it looks like you have as much idea on the subject as I do (none).
Anybody help out on this one?
Dave
Just looked in the FAQ section and there are some instructions on attachments, I don't know if that would work or not??

From what I can remember reading -- motor looks better, less parasitic loss ( 1-2 more HP maby more) , one less thing to brake and squeal, and a few other reasons ( I don't like the looks of it eather) do a search--I did
PS Edit-- and some thing about closed and/or open loop?
2ed.PS Edit-- also takes 5lbs.(?) off front end.

and don't feel guilty about "wrecking the environment"--96 impala lt1 were such a gm headache with a.i.r. pump that gm has a federally approved ''field delete'' of the a.i.r....proves how much it must really be worth
