Default Door locks "Gone Wild"!!

My 91 has started a very odd intermittent problem. The door locks and courtesy lights have gone nuts. When I roll the ignition switch over to the run position the interior lights will shut off (normal) and the doors will lock (again normal). Intermittently after starting, the locks will unlock/lock a number of times (2 or three) and the lights come on and go off with the locks . I've had both door panels off to check the connections, switches and the leads and all check good. I thought I had perhaps knocked some corrosion loose since there hasn't been an issue for a while until this AM when it occurred again.

I seem to remember a post some time ago that presented similar issues but the search turned up nothing.

Your thoughts?

I am not familiar with the '91's but do they have the passive keyless entry systems ? My '94 has this and started doing exactly what you are talking about and eventually progressed to randomly opening the hatch and I had to disconnect part of the PKE module to finally stop it.

Hi Steel Blue,

Did you ever get a resolution? I am having the same issues with my 94 convertible and have a lead that it might possibly be the PKE Receiver.

by the way nice pics

The PKE sounds gulity. All good info so far. Check in C4 tech under passive keyless, a few posts away, similar problems with additional info. Working on my PKE right now if that makes you feel better, mine is dead. Charge on!

Those are the classic symptoms of a bad door ajar switch. I have had to replace my driver's side door switch 3 times in the 6 years I have owned my car. Never had a problem with the passenger side. The last time I bought a switch it costed me $21. You have to remove the door panel to disconnect the switch.

Thanks for the responses. I have not found the problem since it hasn't happened (I have been unable to duplicate the issue) since posting. No PKE on my 91. I'll be taking the DS door panel off his weekend to check the regulator rollers (window is loose as he!!) and will pull the door switch and have a look.

As pointed out in the Passive Key Entry post, you may not need to remove the door panel to remove the switch. I had to because of the tightness of my wires. You're may not be as tight.

No PKE - great, one less system to check. I should have known . If you have a schematic or wiring diagram it might assist you with the problem if it doesn't end up being a switch or something simple. I don’t know your system but there could be a relay or the relay driver that is causing the problem.

Knowing the players (parts) and configuration would help. With things together press on the door panels to see if anything happens. Wiggle wires and plugs, bad ground, maybe. Something is actuating the circuit and it could be in various places. Good luck - Charge on
