too many shims?

too many shims?
been getting very aquainted with my engine compartment and notice that there is a huge stack of alignment shims on the top control arms front bolt. how much shimming is too much and can all these shims be a sign of something bad
there are about 7 of the really thick shims

I'd be surprised if it was that way from the factory.
I just crammed all of my shims up front (6?), none in back to maximize castor. The total number of shims affects camber, the amount front vs rear affects castor.
