After I had the rear gears changed from 2.59 to 3.54 I have noticed that while cruising in OD that the upshift light comes on at about 2500 rpm. It goes out if I lift my foot off the gas and the rpms drop to around 1900. I don't recall this ever happening with the stock ratio. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is happening?
Most likely, it is comparing the engine rpm to the vehicle speed for a specified pre-programmed period of time. Your gear changed caused almost a 30% "lower" gear ratio so for all it knows, you are not in your top gear. l'd bet a chip could be burned to include your new parameters.
Howdy!
Did a search, found this thread. My 88 just started with the upshift light. Comes on for no reason at 60 or 70 or 75 mph cruising speed, put a little pressure on the throttle to load the engine, the light goes out. Went to 3.07 from 2.59 about 10,000 ago. Weird. Wondered if it might be a vaccuum issue? Interested in any more feedback.....
