Hooker 2151s aren't too bad of an install. I have em on my Lt-1. I used to have a full thread about installing them somewhere...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ooker+2151%27s

Header installs are pretty self explainitory except for a few things you will run into.

The motor mount bolts will hit your headers so you will need to take both motor mount bolts out and switch them around backwards. This is easy to do and doesn't change a thing with the mounts themselves.

The no 7 inside header bolt is a bitch. I had to round the bolt itself off just to get a wrench on it. here is a pic:

I also rounded a cheapo wrench so it would fit on there. This is my header wrench and it still works today when I need to tighten my bolts.

The no 8 rear bolt is a killer. Impossible to do with the AIR tube in place. Since you are doing 2151s I imagine you are getting rid of these tubes. (That also presents the custom tuning issues, Have you thought of this?) With the tubes out of the way it is difficult but not impossible.

Look through "my corvette photos" I still have a few pics of my 2151 install in there.

Good luck and pm me with any questions.

Also what gaskets are you using? I had bad luck with the Copper gaskets, and the Felpro 1406....

I've had good luck with the Earls Performance Inserts gaskets.

If you use a set of ARP header bolts with a 3/8" 12pt or a 6pt head, they make getting to #8 much easier.

I never thought about the Air tube and Custom Tuning issues. I have a 1996 LT4...is it going to be different than your '92? Whats the advantage/disadvantage of keeping and removing the AIR Tube? Also is it easy to weld a tube on the headers? Sorry for the bombardment of questions.

Oh and killer write up on the header install :-)

I suggest getting the ARP bolts that TJWong said also. Those are what I have. You cannot re-use the stock bolts.

You are going to need to lose the AIR tubes and get a custom tune to get rid of them. The cars computer will be looking for them. Tuning issues are slightly different but the priciples are still the same.

You are also going to need block off plates for the rear of the manifold. You can buy those cheap from TPIS.com.

You will need the tuning to run w/o AIR or it will set a code. You will need to find an OBD2 tuner. I think Alvin @ PCM4less has a partner that does OBD2 well. I would contact him to start.

Have you thought about cats and what you will need to replace or eliminate them? It is impossible to reuse the stock cats with longtubes. You also have an extra set of O2 sensors you will need to get simulators for if you run w/o cats.

Eliminating cats, already have O2 sensors. Im starting to think that the $200+ to get EM headers might be worth it.

It depends. I much prefer the car w/o the AIR system. It really frees up room in the engine compartment. Things such as a spark plug change now take about 15mins instead of 2 hours and busted knuckles.

I am getting ready to put 2151's on mine...did you soak your bolts overnight before trying to get them off? Thx for the tips on getting to the bolts (especially the engine mount tip)

The "easy" part will be installing the headers. The hard part will be removing the old stuff.

The bonus round is connecting the headers to your current exhaust. I'd make sure you have a friend with a welder and a tubing bender.
